NSUK SUG President Suspended Indefinitely Over Gross Misconduct, Stampede

Comrade Buhari Ari Ibrahim, also known as Bombay, the president of the Students’ Union Government of Nasarawa State University, Keffi, NSUK, has been suspended from office indefinitely.

The Legislative Arm of the Union reached this decision in response to allegations of egregious misconduct and office abuse.

Following an extraordinary plenary session at the university’s Faculty of Law’s Moot Court, the legislature named five crimes as grounds for his suspension in a letter dated March 26.

The suspension was carried out in line with Article Six, Section 5(2)(c) of the union’s constitution, according to the letter sent to the president.

Buhari was charged with a number of charges, including neglecting to establish appropriate procedures for the State-provided palliative care distribution Student government.

Without consulting the Senate, he is accused of introducing a “palliative beneficiary card,” which sparked a deadly stampede that left multiple pupils maimed and dead.

Other infractions include being inaccessible, neglecting to get the signature of the union account, calling and presiding over EXCO meetings in accordance with Senate directives, and failing to appear before a committee of investigation established by the Senate.

Thus, pending the conclusion of a committee’s current probe, the Senate instructed Buhari to turn over all union activities and papers to his vice, Rasheedah Aroke.

He was also cautioned not to access the union’s documents or be seen in the vicinity of the SUG Secretariat.

The halt was decided during a plenary session on a resolution made by Senator Emmanuel Jeremiah Ablaba and seconded by Senator Abdulkareem Anzaku, the chairman of the Senate Committee on Business.
