According to Nwachukwu, the fallen troops would be buried at the National Cemetery in Abuja at 3 p.m.
The funeral has been set for Wednesday, March 27, 2024, for the 17 soldiers who were recently slain at Okuama Community in Delta State.
On Tuesday, March 26, 2024, Army spokesperson Maj.-Gen. Onyema Nwachukwu made this announcement in a statement. He said that the event’s special guest of honor would be President Bola Tinubu.
According to Nwachukwu, the fallen troops would be buried at the National Cemetery in Abuja at 3 p.m.
It will be remembered that during a mission in the Okuama hamlet in Ughelli South Locality, the soldiers of the 181 Amphibious Battalion were slain in an ambush Thursday, March 14, 2024, in the Government Area of Delta.
In response to a reported communal altercation between the community and Okoloba in Bomadi LGA of Delta, the military declared that they were on a “peaceful and mediatory mission”.
The Nigerian Army generally dislikes revealing the names of slain soldiers to the public, particularly when there are large numbers of deaths, but on Monday, March 18, it made an exception for the victims of Okuama.
You may also remember that in the wake of the attack, the president gave the military “full authority” to prosecute anyone found to be accountable for the attack.
Major General Onyema Nwachukwu, an Army spokeswoman, stated in a different statement early on Monday that efforts are continuing to fulfill the instruction.
He declared, “There is definitely no hiding place for these criminals; troops are determined to get to them.”
