Osita Okechukwu, a former director general of Voice of Nigeria (VON), has clarified why the opposition political parties’ recent appeals for merger in an attempt to overthrow the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) are ineffective.

APC foundation member Okechukwu expressed his thoughts on Sunday in Enugu in response to the recent proposals for merger that former vice president Alhaji Atiku Abubakar and professor Pat Utomi had been making. He also discussed the recent Senegalese presidential election.

The call lacks the appropriate contextual underpinning and dynamism, in the opinion of the former VON boss.

Senegal’s incoming President-elect Bassirou Faye for replicating the success of the ruling party, but notes that Utomi, Atiku, and numerous other officials from significant opposition groups have made forceful appeals for consolidation APC in the year 2015.

Okechukwu, a member of the merger committee that helped steer the APC into a strong resistance in 2013, stated that there are numerous grounds for rejecting these latest proposals for mergers as well as the false presumptions that supported them.

The conditions and dynamics on the ground differ noticeably, to start with, despite the constant calls from opposition political parties to join a strong alliance in order to unseat the APC, just as the PDP was defeated in 2015.
