The Imo State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has embarked on a transformative journey with the announcement of dates for its upcoming ward, Local Government Area (LGA), and state congresses. This decision comes in the wake of significant leadership changes that triggered a wave of resignations within the party ranks.
At a pivotal stakeholders’ meeting held at the state secretariat in Owerri, State Caretaker Committee Chairman Chidi Dike assured party members of a fair and inclusive electoral process. Highlighting the importance of these congresses, Dike emphasized their role in rejuvenating the party and positioning it strategically to tackle future challenges.
The congress timetable, released by State Secretary Ugorji Onuegbu, outlines key dates: ward congresses scheduled for July 27, LGA congresses slated for August 10, and state congresses to follow on August 31. These milestones mark a crucial phase in the party’s internal restructuring efforts.
During the meeting, Dike also expressed gratitude to National Secretary and former gubernatorial candidate Senator Samuel Anyanwu for his steadfast support towards enhancing the party’s welfare in the state. The occasion also saw the inauguration of the LGA Congress Harmonisation and Consensus Committees, tasked with overseeing the smooth conduct of congresses at the grassroots level.
In addressing internal discipline, Dike commended the efforts of the Chief Emma Ahuoku-led Disciplinary Committee, which has been pivotal in addressing issues of misconduct and anti-party activities.
The stakeholders’ meeting garnered substantial participation from party members across Imo State’s three geopolitical zones, underscoring the collective commitment to fostering unity and revitalizing the party’s organizational framework.
