The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governors Forum has taken a clear stance on the ongoing political crisis in Rivers State by expressing unwavering support for Governor Siminalayi Fubara. This decision comes amid a prolonged conflict between Fubara and his former political ally, now FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, which has led to factional disputes within the State House of Assembly.
The PDP Governors Forum, led by Chairman and Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed, issued a communiqué following their recent meeting in Enugu. The communiqué emphasized the forum’s commitment to resolving the crisis and ensuring peace within the party. The governors affirmed their support for Fubara and pledged to engage in broader consultations with stakeholders to seek a lasting solution to the unrest.
The communiqué also expressed regret over the perceived decline in the nation’s development under the APC-led Federal Government, citing a reduction in inflation and improvements in living standards during the PDP-led administration. The governors vowed to restore these standards and improve the quality of life for Nigerians.
In addition to addressing the Rivers State crisis, the forum commended the innovative governance approaches adopted by PDP-controlled states, highlighting their achievements in infrastructure, education, health, and youth initiatives. They called for unity and restraint as the PDP aims to return to power in the 2027 elections.
The communiqué concluded with appreciation for Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu, who hosted the forum’s meeting, and acknowledged his contributions to both Enugu State and the South Eastern region.
