Tai Solarin University of Education (TASUED), located in Ijagun, Odogbolu Local Government Area of Ogun State, has taken disciplinary action against 83 students, including rusticating 25 and suspending 58 indefinitely. The decision, announced following the University’s Senate meeting on July 31, 2024, addresses various forms of misconduct, including forgery, threats to life, examination malpractices, and other fraudulent activities.
A statement from the University’s Registrar and Secretary to the Council, Mr. Dapo Oke, detailed the sanctions imposed. Notably, Ojo Michael, a 200-level student in the Computer Science Department, has been rusticated for the entire 2023/2024 academic session. Michael’s offense involved forgery of his CGPA to contest in Student Union Elections.
The disciplinary measures were recommended by the Examination Malpractice and Students’ Disciplinary Committee and received approval from the Senate during its statutory meeting. The sanctions are as follows:
- Seventeen students were rusticated for examination malpractice.
- Five students were rusticated for threats to life.
- One student faced rustication for fraudulent acts.
- Forty-seven students received indefinite suspension for general misconduct.
- Ten students were suspended for impersonation.
The statement emphasized that all affected students have been directed to stay away from the campus. Failure to comply with this directive will result in further legal action and intervention by the University’s security personnel.
“The Senate, at its statutory meeting of 31st July 2024, approved the disciplinary actions as recommended by the Examination Malpractice and Students’ Disciplinary Committee,” the statement read. “The affected students are advised to stay off campus to avoid potential embarrassment by the University Security Personnel.”
