In a heartwarming gesture reflecting the commitment to improving the welfare of police officers and their families, the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, has disbursed checks totaling N48,681,738.48 to the families of 22 officers who lost their lives while in active service, as well as officers who sustained injuries during official duties in Kogi State.
The Kogi State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP William Ovye Aya, revealed this in a statement released on Friday. The Commissioner of Police for Kogi State, Bethrand Onuoha, presented the cheques on behalf of the IGP, acknowledging the immense sacrifices made by the fallen officers and reiterating the Nigeria Police Force’s dedication to supporting its officers.
This significant financial relief forms part of a broader welfare initiative spearheaded by IGP Egbetokun, aimed at alleviating the suffering of officers’ families who lost their loved ones in the line of duty. It also serves as encouragement to current officers, reinforcing the fact that their service and commitment are valued.
According to SP Aya, IGP Egbetokun’s unwavering resolve to enhance the welfare of the police extends to all officers, whether still serving, retired, or deceased. The IGP’s actions signal a deep respect for the sacrifices made by police personnel who risk their lives daily to uphold law and order across Nigeria.
During the presentation ceremony, CP Onuoha extended his condolences to the families of the deceased officers, recognizing the ultimate sacrifice their loved ones made in the line of duty. He urged the recipients to use the funds to improve their families’ living conditions while encouraging those officers who were injured to prioritize their recovery.
The families of the deceased officers expressed their gratitude for the support from the Nigeria Police Force, noting that such welfare programs help ease the financial burden left by the sudden loss of breadwinners.
This disbursement not only underscores the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to supporting its members but also sends a strong message of solidarity to serving officers across the country. The IGP’s ongoing welfare programs are designed to boost morale, showing officers that their efforts are recognized and appreciated, even in the unfortunate event of loss or injury.
As the police force continues to face challenges in maintaining peace and security, such gestures from the leadership of the force highlight the importance of officer welfare and are pivotal in fostering an environment of dedication and professionalism within the ranks.
