Abia residents celebrate Otti’s victory with free drinks, fireworks

When INEC announced Dr Alex Otti of the Labour Party as the victor of the March 18 governorship election, spontaneous celebrations broke out in the major towns of Umuahia and Aba on Wednesday.

According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the joyous inhabitants of the two cities danced around the main streets and lit bonfires on the streets.

As part of the celebration, other kinds of fireworks also lit the air.

To celebrate the LP’s triumph, tricycle drivers flocked to the streets and drove recklessly.

Also, according to NAN, individuals in the cities were given free drinks on the streets, in stores, and public rest areas.

Also, it was discovered that the governor-home elect’s towns of Arochukwu and Ohafia, and those of his deputy, Mr Ikechukwu Eletu, were both in a festive mood.

In praise of God’s intervention in ending the PDP’s 24 years of “misrule,” the people sang several songs.

People from all walks of life claimed that they were happy with the PDP’s defeat in Abia and the dawning of a new era.

Dr Charles Chinekezi, the state chairman of the Civil Liberties Organization, expressed his happiness that the votes cast by the citizens of Abia may be counted in the election.

He asserted that Otti’s administration would change the narrative and put an end to the period of unpaid wages, excessive taxation, and broken promises.

“With Otti’s record of achievement, Abia people are sure to have a new lease on life,” he said.

Michael Mba, an Aba businessman, expressed his happiness at the prospect of seeing lasting growth in Abia with Otti at the helm.

Also, Ms Nneka Onyegbula predicted that Otti’s administration would outperform Okezie Ikpeazu’s departing one in terms of performance.

She expressed her happiness about Abia’s enhanced transformation under Otti.

She, therefore, urged the citizenry “to join hands with the new government to deliver the expected result”.

Sandra Okechi stated that she was happy because she thought Otti’s administration would bring about an overall improvement in the country’s infrastructure, social amenities, health, education, and regular payment of civil officials’ wages.

She expressed interest in learning how people’s lives might change if a new party came into power in Abia.

“This is why I am excited about Otti and Labour Party’s victory,” Okechi said.

Mrs Nkiruka Godwin, who was seen dancing in the market alongside other women when the news of Otti’s victory broke out, said she was hopeful that the new government would alleviate “the pain inflicted on us in the last eight years”.

Godwin also expressed her confidence in Otti’s ability to lead a populist administration and put a stop to Aba’s traders’ mistreatment. (NAN).
