Human trafficking: Police arrest man for drugging, trafficking young girls
Adebisi Muideen was detained, according to the Osun State Police command, for allegedly drugging and trafficking underage girls.
According to a statement made by the Command’s spokeswoman, Yemisi Opalola, the suspect successfully transported the four females from Ile-Ile, Osun state, to Kano before he was apprehended. The girls were being trafficked to Tripoli in Libya.
The suspect allegedly brought the young girls to a birthday celebration, offered them food, and put sleeping drugs in their beverages.
“After taking the food and drinks, the girls slept off and later woke up in Kano state en route to Tripoli, capital of Libya.
“However, three of the girls escaped miraculously in Kano and called their parents who reported the matter to police.
“The three of the girls have been reunited with their families but the whereabouts of the fourth girl is still not known presently.
The suspect said that the women agreed voluntarily to travel to Libya to work and that his brother in Tripoli had given him the go-ahead to send women to a man in Kano who would transport them to Libya from Kano.
“When we got to the man’s house in Kano, we met so many girls that were being processed for the journey to Libya”, he added.
Opalola stated that the case is still under investigation and that the suspect will eventually face charges in court.
