Victor Williams has been charged by the Lagos State Police Command for allegedly stealing a bank check from his former employer, Alhaji Adekunle Moshood.
Additionally, he was charged with stealing more than N2 million from the account and forging Moshood’s signature on the check.
On Thursday, Williams appeared before Magistrate P. E. Nwaka was charged with three counts of theft and forgery.
Thomas Nurudeen, the police prosecutor, informed the court that the offense violated Sections 411 and 287(1) of the Lagos State Criminal Law and is punished by those provisions.
The accusation stated, in part, “That you, Victor Williams, did unlawfully withdraw N500,000 from the account of your ex-employer, Adekunle Moshood, in the Magodo area of the state over the counter and had subsequently transferred N2,000,000 into your account without the consent of the original owner of the account and had thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State.”
The allegations were read to the defendant in English, but he entered a plea of not guilty.
Nwaka accepted the defendant’s plea and granted him bail in the amount of N500,000 with two dependable sureties in the same amount.
The matter was therefore postponed until May 9, 2023, for mention.
