According to the Nigerian Ports Authority, through increasing efficiency at the country’s seaports, the NPA was able to deliver on its commitment to speed up vessel turnaround times and reduce cargo dwell times at Lekki Port.
This was remarked by Mohammed Bello-Koko, the managing director of NPA, in response to the recent berthing of commercial ships at Lekki Deep Seaport.
However, he made a commitment that the authority would build on this accomplishment.
Recall that a carrier with an overall length of 300 meters was berthed at the Lekki Port last Friday and released the same day. The remarkable 6570 twenty equivalent units of the CMA-CGM Rabelais will be used for loading and unloading freight. The ship left Shanghai, China, and made a port call at Lekki Seaport.
“This vessel is leaving the country on the same day it berthed is a fulfillment of our promise to deliver on the high turnaround time of vessels and speedy cargo dwell time through improved efficiencies, and I am delighted to assure that we are committed to continuously improving on this milestone,” said Bello-Koko.
The authority’s purchase of maritime equipment, according to Assistant Harbour Master at Lekki Port Captain Monday Gajere, set the stage for the vessel’s effortless berthing.
He said: “The thorough navigation risk assessment involving Pilots, Tugs, and Mooring gangs set the pace for seamless berthing of the large cargo carrier is a demonstration of the NPA’s talent-readiness to maximise the competitive advantages that Lekki Port deep draught and state-of-the-art equipment offers as Nigeria advances towards attaining port hub status.”
