The President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd), has expressed how eagerly he is anticipating the remaining six days before he leaves office.
He claimed that he had a hard time handling the demands of his position.
The president addressed on Tuesday evening in Abuja at a meal the Nigerian Armed Forces hosted for him. The occasion is one of the planned events for the inauguration ceremony on May 29.
In his speech, Buhari apologized for running late and stated, “Please, I would want to stray from the scheduled remarks. I really apologize for keeping you waiting. I am hardly able to handle the pressure. I can’t wait to get through the following six days.
But Buhari urged the military and other security organizations to maintain their resolve in the face of the nation’s security problems.
The president praised the military’s achievements in the nation’s continuous fight against terrorism but emphasized that it must not stop until insecurity is eradicated.
He said, “The commission of the Armed Officers’ Mess is a step in line with this policy. For me, the regimental dinner organised for me to mark this occasion is very significant because it presents me with another opportunity to reflect positively on the past, present, and future of our armed forces.
“Please permit me to appreciate our military for their loyalty, handwork, dedication, and selfless service to our beloved nation. I am fully aware of all your sacrifices and commitments in tackling the myriad of security challenges and your contributions to the successful elections in our country.
“However, until the issue of insecurity is surmounted much more is still desired from the Armed Forces of Nigeria. Consequently, the Armed Forces of Nigeria and other security agencies must always remain resolute in the face of the country’s insecurity challenges.”
He also said that the military will not go without the support it needs in the final days of his rule.
“Our administration before winding down will never relent to increase the support of the military to enable them to successfully carry out their constitutional obligations,” stated Buhari. Our fallen warriors’ ultimate sacrifice will never be in vain, and may God Almighty continue to grant them eternal rest.
