Inibehe Effiong, a lawyer and social commentator, has responded to the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Kashim Shettima’s exclusion as the next president and vice president, respectively.
According to Effiong, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) ought to have encouraged one of the candidates who participated in the APC primaries to oppose Shettima’s dual candidacy.
He claimed that by choosing to dispute Shettima’s double nomination on its own, the PDP had made a fundamental error.
According to Propolitics, the Apex Court denied the PDP’s lawsuit on Friday, denying Tinubu and Shettima the right to vote in the 2023 presidential election.
The Court determined that the PDP’s lawsuit had a glaring lack of validity.
The legal expert said that the litigation’s outcome was foreseeable in a post on his verified Twitter account on Friday.
He wrote, “In law, strategy is important and can make nonsense of the substance of a case if not properly considered
“PDP could have persuaded one of the numerous aspirants who participated in the APC primary to challenge Shettima’s double nomination. But it decided to do so on its own.
“The outcome was predictable. It wasn’t going to be tenable given the state of the law on pre-election matters.
“It is tidier to raise it as a ground in the petition and contend that the double nomination eroded Tinubu/Shettima’s qualification. This case was always a distraction.”
