After approving the governor’s proposal to appoint 20 Special Advisers, Abdullahi Sule, a faction of the Nasarawa State House of Assembly adjourned for a one-month break.
Two candidates for Speaker of the 7th Assembly emerged on Tuesday, according to our correspondent, notably Ibrahim Abdullahi and Daniel Ogazi, after a heated election process involving the 24 members-elect of the House took place at two different Lafia sites.
While Ogazi received 13 votes in the election held in the assembly complex, Abdullahi, the immediately previous Speaker of the House, held his election at the State’s Ministry for Local Government and received 11 votes from members-elect loyal to him.
Speaking on Thursday about the approval for the appointment of the Special Advisers in Lafia, Rt. Hon. Ibrahim Abdullahi said that the quick approval was necessary to allow the Governor to name the 20 Special Advisers who would help him carry out the good policies and programs of his administration in the state.
“This Honourable House is hereby granting His Excellency’s request,” he declared. “His Excellency has sent a request for the appointment of 20 Special Advisers that will help him in the consolidation of his policies and programs.”
Governor Abdullahi Sule had earlier authorized a complete refurbishment of the assembly facility, according to Rt. Hon. Abdullahi.
He added that the Ministry of Works would soon start the work at the assembly complex and that the Governor’s efforts were in keeping with the State Government’s commitment to creating an atmosphere that would enable the lawmakers and other personnel to provide effective services.
In order to allow the Ministry of Works to refurbish the House in accordance with His Excellency, Governor Abdullahi Sule’s approval, he remarked, “We are proceeding on recess today, June 8, 2023, to resume on July 10, 2023.”
According to our correspondent, the Majority Leader, Hon. Mohammed Adamu-Omadefu (APC- Keana), submitted a resolution for the House to go on recess during the House proceedings.
