Senator Samuel Anyanwu, the Peoples Democratic Party’s candidate for governor in Imo State, has urged the state’s residents to uphold democracy in the face of ongoing security threats.
Anyanwu, who serves as the PDP National Secretary, pledged to make Imo a better and safer place while in office.
This information was included in a statement released on Monday to mark 2023 Democracy Day.
He acknowledged that he was aware of the many issues the state was facing as a result of instability and bad economic policies.
He lamented the state’s decline from its former position as the South-East region’s leader in security and hospitality, and he questioned why it had overnight become into a “theatre of war” for reasons that are still unclear.
“I am aware that your businesses have crumbled and collapsed due to the insecure environment we find ourselves today; your lives are threatened and properties destroyed, but be rest assured that peace will be restored again in Imo when the Righteous takes over”
“Despite the challenges and the losses, I appeal to you in the name of God to remain focused and law-abiding, and continue to play your individual role in consolidating our democracy until our state is finally salvaged.”
“Once again, let me use this opportunity to salute the good people of Imo State for your unwavering support towards our aspiration to take Imo out of the dungeon and return it back to its pride of place as the Eastern Heartland known for its hospitality and investment-friendly state. I assure you that Imo will be safe again.”
While praising the Imo people for upholding the principles of the fledgling democracy, it further exhorts them to withstand any pressure from third parties that might undermine their collective zeal to install a more accommodating and people-oriented government in the state during the governorship election on November 11, 2023.
