Meetings between the Federal Government and organized labor are currently taking place at the Presidential Villa in Abuja to consider potential interventions in the wake of the elimination of gasoline subsidies.
The meeting on Monday, which got underway about 05:30 pm, is likely to go over the FG’s suggested palliatives and demands from organized labor for a higher minimum wage.
The FG and the two labor organizations—the Nigeria Labour Congress and the Trade Union Congress—agreed to continue discussions and bring the resolutions to a close at the most recent meeting, which took place on June 5, 2023.
“The labor centers and the Federal Government meet on June 19, 2023, to agree on an implementation framework,” the resolution read.
The delegations of the NLC and TUC, each led by their respective presidents, Joe Ajaero and Festus Osifo, as well as the president’s chief of staff Femi Gbajabiamila, Zachaeus Adedeji, Olu Verheijen, and Kachallom Daju, as well as the permanent secretary of the ministry of labor and employment, are present at the meeting.
Mele Kyari, the Group Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited, Farouk Ahmed, the Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission, Gbenga Komolafe, and others are also in attendance.
