Dr. Chibuike Ugwuoke, a cyber security specialist, presented papers in support of Mr. Peter Obi’s appeal on Wednesday at the Presidential Election appeal Court in Abuja.
In a suit titled CA/PEPC/03/2023, Obi, the Labour Party’s (LP) candidate for president in the Feb. 25 election, contests President Bola Tinubu’s victory as announced by INEC.
The All Progressives Congress (APC), President Tinubu, Vice President Kashim Shettima, and INEC are the respondents.
Obi’s attorney, Mr. Patrick Ikweato (SAN), informed the court during the petition’s resumed hearing that Ugwuoke had information to invalidate portions of the election’s results.
As an additional document, Ugwuoke submitted a press release from Mr. Festus Okoye, National Commissioner for Voter Education at INEC, dated November 11, 2022.
Abubakar Mahmoud (SAN), the INEC’s attorney, objected to the witness’ invitation before he was even named.
He stated that respondents needed time to analyze Ugwuoke’s statement in order to be able to cross-examine the witness because the petitioner only served respondents with it a short while before the court’s scheduled hearing.
Kashim Shettima’s attorney, Mr. Wole Olanipekun (SAN), and Mr. Lateef Fagbemi (SAN), as well as the APC, agreed with Mahmoud’s position.
All of the attorneys argued that they would explain their objections in their closing arguments and rejected the admission of Obi’s witness and his materials.
However, the court accepted the materials as exhibits.
On Thursday, Ugwuoke is scheduled to give a testimony before the five-person court panel chaired by Justice Haruna Tsammani.
