Revamp cattle routes across Nigeria, don urges Tinubu

Professor Abdullahi Tukur, vice chancellor of Modibbo Adama University in Yola, has urged President Bola Tinubu to redesign and redraw cattle routes across the nation.

Prof. Tukur also encouraged the president to develop a practical ranching program.

Prof. Tuku made the request on Wednesday at a seminar on cross-border pastoral, environmental change, and farmers/herder relations in Adamawa State that was organized by the Centre for Peace and Security Studies, Modibbo Adama University, Yola.

Speaking at the ceremony, Professor Tukur emphasized that one of the main causes of conflicts between Nigerian farmers and herders is climate change.

The Don, who was represented by Professor Abel Adebayo, Dean of the School of Postgraduate Studies, claimed that the ongoing farmers’ and herders’ conflicts, which have had a significant influence on the agricultural industry and human lives, were partially caused by the declining land and water supplies as a result of climate change.

Dr. Adam Higazi, the project’s lead researcher, urged the Federal Government to work on cattle routes and ensure that the citizenry, especially rural residents, are educated in his presentation on Pastoral Mobility, Inter-Group Relations, and Peace Building in the Border Lands of Nigeria and Cameroon.

Professor Jude Momodu, the director of the Modibbo Adama University Center for Peace and Conflict Studies, stated earlier in his speech that the research’s conclusions would be helpful to the government and decision-makers, and he suggested that they use technology to grow better varieties of cows and grasses.
