Mrs. Onyi Ugba, a businesswoman, was taken hostage by gunmen at Okija Street in Port Harcourt, the capital of Rivers State, in the Mile 2 axis.
The incident happened on Friday at around 6:40 p.m. when a group of thugs, totaling around five, broke into Mrs. Ugba’s store on Okija Street near the Umuoji junction.
According to reports, the thugs demanded that the woman give them all of the cash she earned from sales that day.
The clearly alarmed businesswoman stumbled and brought some money, which she offered to the criminals, but their response indicates that they are not happy.
The gunmen were upset when the woman couldn’t pay enough money, a source in the vicinity informed our correspondent. Because of this, the thieves decided to kidnap her.
When reached, Grace Iringe-Koko, a spokeswoman for the state Police Command, verified the event and stated that an investigation was continuing.
“Yes, we are aware of the incident, and we’re working to get the woman to safety as soon as possible.
Iringe-Koko, a Superintendent of Police, said, “Our troops have initiated a hunt to catch the suspects and make them face the law, not merely to rescue her.
Remember that in December 2022, thugs broke into Mrs. Ugba’s store at the same address and stole an undisclosed amount of money.
The Mile 1 Police Division was notified of the incident, but the suspects weren’t detained prior to the latest incident on Friday.
