Unknown gunmen attack Enugu Police station, cart away arms

In the wee hours of Tuesday, the raging unidentified gunmen assaulted the Isi-Uzo Divisional Police Station in Ikem, Enugu State, and are accused of stealing police weapons and ammunition.

Sources from Isi-Uzo narrated that the assailant stormed the unfenced police station at about 2 am on Tuesday with a Toyota Sienna bus, shouting “Release Nnamdi Kanu,” “No Nnamdi Kanu, no peace.”

They entered through Eha-Amufu and left through the same axis, but it is unlikely that they reached the settlement of Eha-Amufu or crossed into Nkalagu because the soldiers would have run into them there. The source speculated that they might have traveled to Benue state via Aguamede.

A police officer working night shift at the police station was reportedly shot, but he survived.

Banks in Ikem and Eha-Amufu were terrorized by armed thieves who frequently attacked the divisional police station, forcing them to close for more than 10 years.

The sole divisional police station in the entire Isi-Uzo LGA, and the closest is 30 kilometers away at Obollo-Afor, is the permeable one.

Daniel Ndukwe, the public relations officer for the Enugu State Police, did not return calls or texts seeking his confirmation of the occurrence.
