The Department of State Service (DSS) has re-arrested Mr. Godwin Emefiele, the Central Bank of Nigeria’s (CBN) suspended Governor, before the Federal High Court in Lagos.
Recall that DSS had earlier in the day charged Emefiele with illegally possessing guns on two counts.
Emefiele had been granted bail in the amount of N20 million and a surety in the same amount by the trial judge, Justice Nicolas Oweibo.
In addition, the judge had authorized his detention in Ikoyi Prison in Lagos till his bond was successfully completed.
However, when prison authorities attempted to arrest Emefiele earlier as directed by the court, DSS agents physically assaulted the prison officials’ boss.
The jail guards eventually exited the court after what appeared to be an order from above.
DSS agents massed outside the courtroom and were well-positioned in their two Hilux pick-up trucks as the jail vehicles departed.
