‘Calm Down’ has emerged as Afrobeats’ most successful worldwide export, topping charts in various countries and establishing streaming records.
Another historic achievement is the 700 million views of Selena Gomez’s ‘Calm Down’ music video.
While both the original and remake videos have crossed 1 billion views, the Selena Gomez-assisted version continues to strive to become the first Nigerian music video to reach 1 billion views.
The record, which was released in February 2022 as one of the lead singles from Rema’s debut album ‘Calm Down,’ has achieved extraordinary popularity across Africa and beyond.
The track reached the top of the charts in North Africa, India, and the Middle East, earning Rema a Guinness World Record.
The record also charted in various nations across Europe, including Nigeria, where it peaked at No. 3 on the Billboard Hot 100 and the UK Singles Chart.
‘Calm Down’ just won the inaugural Afrobeats category at the 2023 MTV EMAs, defeating opposition from Davido, Burna Boy, and Asake.
Rema’s ‘Calm Down,’ which has brought Rema worldwide exposure and economic success as Afrobeats continues to spread internationally, has become the continent’s most exported single, positioning Rema to be Afrobeats’ greatest performer yet.
