The Independent Democratic Monitors (IDM) have welcomed the Appeal Court’s decision to uphold Hyacinth Alia’s victory as Benue State’s elected governor.

The group said in a statement signed by Dr. James Bawa, its Executive Secretary, that the outcome has given credence to the governorship tribunal, which also ruled in favor of Governor Alia and his deputy, Dr Sam Ode.

Recall that the appellate court earlier today dismissed an appeal filed by Titus Uba, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate, challenging Alia’s election.

The court resolved all three issues formulated for determination against Uba and PDP in a unanimous decision.

According to Bawa, the ruling demonstrates the Benue people’s trust.

We appreciate the judiciary’s thoroughness in reaching this conclusion.

“This victory confirmation shows that our country’s judicial system has evolved and can be trusted and relied on.” Not only that, but the judicial process was thorough and in-depth, as all issues were thoroughly investigated without leaving any stone unturned.

“The justices resisted every attempt to persuade them. The opposition tried its usual gimmicks of blackmail, intimidation, and a campaign of slander, but it failed because the judiciary has proven to be the common man’s last hope.

“We want to use this medium to encourage the opposition to back the governor.” We also believe that now is the time to get to work.
