Sheikh Dr Muhammadu Tukur Sani Jangebe, the Chief Imam of Muslim Foundation Mosque, has resigned as a result of the controversy surrounding his comments on political developments in the state.
On Friday, November 26, 2023, the cleric announced his resignation in a letter to the mosque’s management. The development came after he received backlash for criticizing the state governor, Dauda Lawal.
The Chief Imam was seen in a viral video condemning Lawal and praising the state’s immediate past governor and Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle.
The contentious video clip elicited mixed reactions from the state’s political elites and religious communities. Because of the mosque that the Sheikh led, the situation became more complicated.
The incumbent governor renovated it.
In his letter to the mosque’s management committee, he stated that he decided to resign to ensure the mosque’s and the community’s safety and security.
Meanwhile, the Muslim cleric has gone into hiding, citing security concerns, two days after throwing in the towel.
Jangebe told PROPOLITICS over the phone that he had left Zamfara State to defuse the tensions caused by his comments in the viral video clip.
“I am not currently in Zamfara State.” “I decided to leave the state for security reasons, as well as to let the situation settle naturally,” he told the newspaper.
“You are aware that some people are not pleased with what I have said,” the Imam continued. As a result of that video clip, I decided to resign from my position as Chief Ima
