The Department of State Services, DSS, has denied reports that Aisha Ahmad, a former deputy governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, has been arrested.
According to the DSS, no former or current CBN officials have been arrested in the last 48 hours.
On Thursday, reports of Ahmad’s alleged arrest went viral on the Internet.
According to viral reports, not from the PROPOLITICS Ahmad was arrested by the DSS for an alleged fraudulent acquisition of shares in Polaris, Titan Trust, and Union banks.
The former CBN deputy governor was also linked to Titan Bank’s $300 million deal for the complete acquisition of Union Bank.
Since the apex bank’s former governor, Godwin Emefiele, was removed, the CBN and some of its former senior officials have been scrutinized. He was suspended and then arrested.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission is investigating him for alleged financial impropriety during his tenure under former President Muhammadu Buhari.
However, the DSS stated on X, “The DSS did not arrest any former or current CBN official in the last 48 hours.”
