A magistrate court in Enugu, the state capital, has remanded two accused persons for allegedly demolishing a perimeter fence at the Akanu Ibiam International Airport in Enugu.
Armed thugs broke into the facility on Friday and destroyed a portion of the perimeter fence.
The Nigerian Air Force apprehended and handed over some of the suspects to police.
DSP Daniel Ndukwe, the Police Public Relations Officer, Enugu State Command, later confirmed the arrest.
According to our correspondent, the accused were arraigned before the magistrate court presided over by His Worship Apolonia Edeani on Monday.
Mr. Jude Jonathan Emejulu, one other person, and others remain at large.
They were charged with Miscellaneous Offenses Act, Section 1 (3).
Both accused persons pleaded not guilty to the charge, prompting their lawyer, Alex Amujiogu, to request bail from the court.
However, Amujiogu’s efforts were in vain because of their alleged repeated history of committing the same act against the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria, FAAN.
The prosecutor, Barr Justus Attah, OC Legal, Enugu State Police Command, presented the counter-argument.
The court ordered that Mr. Emejulu and one other person be remanded in Enugu Correctional Center and that the case file be forwarded to the Director of Public Prosecutions, DPP, for advice.
