The Lagos State Water Regulatory Commission has announced that it will begin enforcing its mandate to regulate and license packaged water services in order to improve water quality for state residents.
Mrs Funke Adepoju, Executive Secretary of the Commission, stated this during a meeting with executive members of the Association for Table Water Producers (ATWAP) in Alausa, Ikeja.
The meeting was organized by the Commission to reinforce the guidelines for packaged water services and the critical need for compliance with the regulations that govern their operations.
Mrs. Adepoju reiterated that the guidelines issued by the Lagos State Water Regulatory Commission in accordance with the Environmental Management Protection Law of 2017 shall apply to packaged water service operators in Lagos State and shall be interpreted.
“We must continue to work together to ensure that anyone or organization involved in water provision delivers wholesome water to Lagosians,” she went on to say.
Some of the guidelines’ provisions include the registration and licensing of producers and facilities to compliant operators as a quality assurance mark that must be prominently displayed in their premises and delivery vehicles. All processes, including registration, license application, unique identity generation, document uploading, and payment, will be automated.

Mrs. Omolabake Mosaku, Chairperson of the Association, praised the Commission for its open door policy and expressed the body’s willingness to continue cooperating with the Lagos State Government.
She went on to say “as law-abiding citizens, we are excited about the proposed plaques of quality assurance and are ready to comply with the Law geared towards best practices and improved service delivery as we work closely with the Commission through enhanced coordination of our members” .
The meeting is part of the Commission’s strategy to emphasize the importance of compliance with regulations and guidelines for operators of packaged water services in Lagos State.The Lagos State Water Regulatory Commission was established under the Environmental Protection Law of 2017 to provide standards, guidelines and regulations on the quality, price and reliability of water service provision.
