10 Things to Know About Proposed Fourth Mainland Bridge

The bridge is a cross-sectional two-by-four-lane carriageway road with permission for a Bus Rapid Transit Lane and potential road contraction.

3. The bridge was initially scheduled to be built in 2017, and approximately N844 billion had been set aside for its completion in 2019. Nevertheless, the project did not begin on the scheduled date.

4. The bridge will be built 57 years after the state was created on May 27, 1967, and 34 years after the Third Mainland Bridge was delivered in 1990.

6. It was stated in 2021 that the public-private partnership initiative would carry out the project, which was anticipated to cost approximately $2.5 billion, and that it would be delayed for a period of two years.

7. It was made public in 2022 that the Fourth Mainland Bridge was expected to be finished in 2027 when construction began.

10. The eco-friendly environment, three toll plazas, nine interchanges, a 4.5-kilometer Lagoon Bridge, and the completed bridge would make it the second longest in Africa. Additionally, the project will result in the construction of the longest bridge linking Lagos Island to the mainland.
