All parties running in the by-election on February 3, 2024, have been advised by the Department of State Services, or DSS, to abstain from any actions that could lead to a breakdown in law and order.
Public analysts, social critics, and influential figures in the public sphere were urged by the CIA to put national security ahead of their own or their group’s interests.
This is despite the Service’s assurance that it will collaborate with all relevant parties, including the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), other sister security and law enforcement organizations, and the public, to guarantee a smooth election process.
Peter Afunanya, the Director of PR & Strategic Communications at the DSS National Headquarters in Abuja, revealed this in a statement on Friday.
Afunanya promised that the DSS will keep taking effective steps to attain the intended level of national stability.
He also cautioned anyone considering or already involved in subversive activities to stop since the Service will not hold back in making sure that those who violate the law, regardless of their status, suffer the consequences.
