Through its Hisbah section, the Yobe State Ministry of Religious Affairs and Ethical Reorientation has detained 14 individuals on suspicion of prostitution and drug usage.
The accused were taken into custody during a recent raid in the Damaturu metropolis, which was conducted by the Hisbah police in coordination with other security authorities.
While presenting the suspects to reporters, the ministry’s permanent secretary, Alhaji Yusuf Hassan Yusuf, stated that the accused were made up of five men and nine women.
According to him, the individuals were detained because their immoral actions went against Islamic principles.
According to Yusuf, some of the suspects would be turned over to law enforcement for prosecution, while others would be brought to Islamic clerics for therapeutic guidance.
