Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, the governor of Anambra State, gave the people of Anambra assurances yesterday during the celebration of his second year in office that he was going to restructure the state.
Many dignitaries, including past state governors, captains of industry, clergymen, and others, attended the event at the International Convention Center in Awka, the capital of Anambra State. The majority of them praised the governor for his accomplishments in the state.
“Today, we have come to report some aspects of what we have been able to do within these two years,” Soludo remarked, addressing the crowd. Our employers are the people of Anambra; you chose my deputy and myself, and we became your principal servants precisely two years ago.As of right now, I can say that
Anambra is a powerful and growing force. Nigeria is going through incredible times, which is why we deliberately try to achieve more with less. However, difficult circumstances call for creative and resilient leaders.
“Banks have been offering to lend to us, but we have made the conscious decision not to borrow these past two years in order to demonstrate that we can accomplish more with less.”As the former governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, overseeing the nation’s finances, I felt compelled to prove that certain things are achievable. We are in charge of Anambra’s finances right now, and we have to prove our abilities. Moving forward, we are shifting gears.Anambra has not yet witnessed anything. Every kobo of resources owned by Anambra is committed to
our hands, and we’ll demonstrate to you where it is. We will disclose the purpose of any borrowing we do, and you are free to borrow as well. Generally speaking, we borrow to make investments that will yield a return on our investment. However, you won’t ever witness the previous level of borrowing.
Speaking about his accomplishments during his term in office, the governor lamented the nation’s diminishing resources.
“The state now has a far less pool of resources than it did in the past. Then, you would see that we have a lot less money to spend if you look at the purchasing power of money. We are acting in this way: we are doing a great job with what we have,” he remarked.
The people of Anambra, meantime, have applauded the governor for his accomplishments in his first two years in office.
“I’m not surprised at what Soludo is doing in Anambra,” declared Chief Emeka Anyaoku, a former secretary-general of the Commonwealth, during his speech at the ceremony. Is it social agenda, security, or identifying and realigning the governance value system? The most amazing thing about Soludo is that they are initiatives that we can see, not just rumors. I commend Soludo for his outstanding work over the past two years.
Additionally, “He is a man who is well known,” stated Rt Rev. Paulinus Ezeokafor, the Catholic bishop of the Awka Diocese, who presided over the thanksgiving mass. The finalOver the past two years, notable progress has been made in a number of areas, particularly the socioeconomic and infrastructural transformation of Anambra State.
