The Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja has been temporarily closed due to an incident involving an Aerocontractors plane that became stuck on the runway.
Dr. James Odaudu, Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection at the Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau, acknowledged the development in a statement issued on Sunday.
According to the statement, an Aerocontractors aircraft from Lagos to Abuja landed at the airport but became trapped in the grass fringe while attempting to depart the runway.
On Sunday morning, a Boeing 733 with the registration mark 5N-BYQ was involved in an incident.There were no casualties, thus passengers were safely removed from the plane.
The NSIB DG stated that the runway will stay blocked until the aircraft was successfully taken away. he explained.
After landing at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja from Lagos, the aircraft’s nose wheel became trapped in the grass edge with the fuselage still on the runway.
“As a result, the runway was closed until the aircraft could be towed off the runway.”There were no injuries or fatalities.
“The NSIB, hereby, solicits information from the general public in form of pictures, video or recording evidences to assist in conducting a comprehensive investigation.”
