Accident on Lagos-Ibadan Expressway claims three

A Sino truck and a Toyota car were involved in an accident on the Lagos-Ibadan expressway on Saturday that left no less than three people dead and two others with various degrees of injuries.

The Public Education Officer, Federal Road Safety Corps in Ogun, Mrs Florence Okpe, confirmed the incident to newsmen in Abeokuta on Sunday.

A Toyota car with the license plate KSF122 FB and a Sino truck with the designation FZE 840 G were involved in an accident on May 6 at approximately 6.25 p.m., according to Okpe. The FRSC spokesperson explained that speeding was to blame for the collision, which resulted in the Toyota car driver losing control and ramming the moving truck from behind.

“A total of five people were involved which comprised four men and one woman; two people were injured while three deaths were recorded,” she said.

According to Okpe, the deceased were deposited in the FOS Morgue, Ipara in the Remo North local government area of Ogun, while the injured were transferred to Victory Hospital, Ogere for medical assistance.

Ahmed Umar, the FRSC’s State Sector Commander, expressed his sympathy to the victims’ families in the meantime.

Umar emphasized the risks of speeding, particularly during the rainy season when visibility is reduced, and advised drivers to drive defensively and follow all traffic laws.
