Ascribing Peter Obi’s success to religion is ignorance, mischief – Kenneth Okonkwo
Peter Obi’s performance in the recently held presidential election was attributed to his religion or ethnicity, according to Kenneth Okonkwo of the Labour Party, LP, who called this “ignorant and mischievous.”
This claim was made by Okonkwo on Tuesday via a tweet from his official account.
The Nollywood actor maintained that no politician in the history of the nation who was affiliated with a largely unheard-of political party received the support and votes Obi did.
Remember that Okonkwo made his statement in response to an audio discussion between his principal and Bishop David Oyedepo of the Living Faith Church that was released.
The audio conversation claimed Obi asked Oyedepo for assistance in speaking to his supporters and referred to the election as a “holy battle.”
But, according to Okonkwo, some people are “trumping up meaningless and unsubstantiated claims to discredit Obi’s records.”
In addition, he claimed that all tribes and religions had supported Obi in the election on February 25.
He declared: “Anybody who attributes ethnic or religious implications to Obi’s remarkable performance in the 2023 presidential election is uninformed and cunning.
“There’s no Politician in Nigeria’s history that contested the presidential election in Nigeria for the first time under a relatively unknown political party against two established two major political parties that achieved the spread and votes that Obi achieved.
“His performance in the FCT and Lagos, which have the most cosmopolitan nature in Nigeria, shows that Hausas, Yoruba, Igbo, all tribes, Muslims, Christians and every religion voted for him.”
He stated further, “Seeing his powerful petition to reclaim his mandate, stolen through open robbery by INEC and the failed APC ruling party, they are trumping up useless and baseless allegations to taint his records.
“A party that brought out a sick old drug baron and religious bigot who chose same faith ticket in a multi-religious Nigeria should be too ashamed to even speak in the public space.
“But this is the low they’ve brought Nigeria to and they will soon be cleaned out from the leadership cadre in Nigeria, by God’s grace.”
