Dr. Olusegun Mimiko, a former governor of Ondo State, has given the Bola Tinubu/Kashim Shettima government the job of reviving the economy and lifting people out of poverty.
during the Redemption Camp in Mowe, Ogun State, the former governor said this during the Change and Development Forum sponsored by the Dare Adeboye Foundation.
There is no doubt that we need to make some changes to get our country moving, according to Mimiko. Economic development is more than just putting together a plan; it’s an investment in expanding the economy and raising people’s prosperity and standard of living. We cannot emphasize this enough.
“Development must translate to quality of life and living standard. And this must be denominated in literacy level, life expectancy, healthcare outcomes and level of freedom to people making choices among others.”
He talked about economic growth and said that the best way to define it is a rise in real national income, national output, or more accurately, an expansion of a country’s productive capacity.
“Economic growth does not equate to economic development,” he continued. The benefits of economic expansion could not affect people’s lives even if the economy is expanding but only by a small proportion.
The aggregate fortune of Nigeria’s five richest men, according to Mimiko, is around $29.9 billion.
“This is enough to end extreme poverty at the national level. The point is, the economy can be growing without development.
