The 2023 presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, has declared that he will build soccer fields in various open spaces around Nigeria.
The former vice president declared at the presidential debate on Sunday, December 11, that if elected in 2023, he will copy the Moroccan model and implement it in Nigeria.
The same methodology, according to Atiku, enabled Morocco to become the first nation from Africa to get to the World Cup semifinals.
He said that the African country had adopted the strategy to cultivate its sporting prowess and was now reaping the benefits.
“What is observed in Morocco is that practically every neighborhood has been given with football fields. In every Moroccan neighborhood, there are tiny villages, you will discover that municipalities and cities have constructed public football fields.
We should encourage young people to play football early in the morning before they go to school and later in the evening when they get home from school, as you can see.
