A male passenger has died in a collision involving three vehicles at Uzoakwa along Ihiala-Owerri Road, Anambra State, according to confirmation from the Federal Road Safety Corps, or FRSC.
Mr. Adeoye Irelewuyi, the state’s FRSC Sector Commander, disclosed this information to reporters in Awka on Thursday.
Irelewuyi stated that the crash involved unidentified drivers of a Nissan commercial bus, a trailer without a license plate, and a Mack trailer. He claimed that improper overtaking and speeding were the causes of the tragedy.
Witnesses said that as the bus pulled up in front of Universal Bakery, the driver was unloading passengers and the two trailers were approaching at high speed, attempting to pass each other.
The Mack trailer consequently struck the bus, pushing It reached an electric pole, and the two trailers kept going without pausing.
One adult male was slain. Twelve adults were recovered unharmed, however three adult males and one adult female were hurt.
“The deceased victim was placed at the hospital’s mortuary, and the survivors were transported by the FRSC rescue team to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Ihiala,” he stated.
He sent his condolences to the deceased’s family and wished the injured person a speedy recovery.
He asked drivers to refrain from passing too closely and to maintain a reasonable speed limit, and he asked commercial trucks to pull off the road and park somewhere.
