The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, stated on Sunday that it is closely following the situation in Bayelsa State’s Brass Local Government Area, where its staffers are purportedly being held hostage.
On Sunday, the Commission issued a statement on its social media site X.
The development occurred in the aftermath of the state’s gubernatorial election.
INEC cautioned that the situation jeopardizes the credibility of elections and urged security services to expedite their release.
“The Unfolding Situation in Brass Local Government Area,” the message stated.
“The Commission is keeping a close eye on the situation in Brass LGA, Bayelsa State, where our officials are being held hostage.”
“This is harmful to credible elections.” We urge security officials to expedite their release as soon as possible.”
