A former National Commissioner with the Independent National Electoral Commission and retired Professor of Sociology at the University of Lagos, Prof. Lai Olurode, has paid tributes to a former Osun State governor, Bisi Akande, as he clocked 85.
Olurode portrayed Akande as judicious, saying he was a remarkable legislator.
He referenced that Akande had a place with the late Obafemi Awolowo political way of thinking with the basic beliefs of being gruff and inflexible.
This way of thinking, he said “isn’t after power or political office for individual magnification or power for the good of its own,” yet one with scorn for showiness and political celebration.
Olurode reviewed that when Akande filled in as the Secretary to the Public authority of the old Oyo State under the late Bola Ige, and later as the agent lead representative, “he was directed by those political morals which focused on administration and considerable issues instead of the sort of vehicles that authorities of the state ride in.”
As the chosen legislative head of Osun State in 1999 to 2003, Olurode said, “Akande, over the political mission for political decision as lead representative, didn’t spend up to N200,000. He radically cut down on the expense of administration.
“For his purposes, the workplace of the Main Woman had no bearing in Nigeria’s constitution and he didn’t permit this protected distortion.”
He added that Akande, in only four years as the lead representative, fabricated a “epic state secretariat” which, he said, destroyed the act of paying rents.
“During the initiation of the compositional magnum opus, the then President Olusegun Obasanjo, wondered regarding how Akande had the option to accomplish the accomplishment without acquiring,” he added.
That’s what olurode added: “Akande is faithful to his political partners. Through various challenges, and, surprisingly, after the passing of Bola Ige, his reliability to him didn’t whither. Furthermore, all through the rushed and long distance race crusade ventures and struggles of the then Representative Bola Tinubu, Bisi Akande, regardless of old age, remained by him.
“This man is an extraordinary lawmaker, to be sure, out of the OK. He merits all the encomiums in a nation where legislative issues isn’t exactly about guideline and administration however bases on a voracious cash culture.”
