The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has launched airlift missions to deliver relief materials to victims of the recent flood disaster in Maiduguri and surrounding communities in Borno State. These missions are part of a broader national effort to assist the thousands of residents affected by the floods, which have displaced millions, destroyed properties, and disrupted livelihoods.
According to a statement by Group Captain Kabiru Ali, Deputy Director of Public Relations and Information, the relief materials, donated by the Nigerian Customs Service, are intended to alleviate the suffering of the flood victims. The first batch of items, including 300 bags of 50kg rice, was transported to NAF Base Maiduguri via the NAF C-130 Hercules aircraft for subsequent distribution.
NAF’s Broader Humanitarian Effort
In addition to delivering essential food supplies, NAF has also launched a medical outreach initiative aimed at supporting flood victims. The outreach includes medical aid and feeding over 2,000 Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs). The Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Hassan Abubakar, emphasized the importance of NAF’s role in national disaster response efforts and has directed that the airlift operations continue as needed.
NAF’s involvement in the flood relief effort underscores the military’s critical role in addressing humanitarian crises. By collaborating with other security agencies, NAF is mobilizing both human and material resources to ensure that aid reaches all affected areas.
The airlift mission and medical outreach are part of the ongoing efforts by the Nigerian government and its agencies to provide relief and support to flood-affected communities in Borno State.
