Breaking: Governor Adeleke Partners with NBC to Tackle Osun and Oyo Border Dispute—Peace in Sight

Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has reiterated his administration’s commitment to resolving the long-standing boundary dispute between Osun and neighboring Oyo State. This assurance was made during a courtesy visit by the National Boundary Commission (NBC) to Osogbo on Tuesday, led by its Director General, Surveyor Adamu Adaji.

Representatives by Deputy Governor Kola Adewusi and Governor Adeleke emphasized that maintaining peace in Osun is a top priority for his administration. He reaffirmed that the ongoing boundary issues would be addressed with a focus on fairness and the welfare of the affected communities.

“Our commitment to peaceful dispute resolution is unwavering,” Governor Adeleke stated. “We have deployed technocrats to carry out assessments on the ground and engaged the NBC as an impartial mediator to ensure that the process is fair and transparent. The welfare of our citizens comes first, and we are confident that the NBC will help foster cooperation between Osun and Oyo.”

The boundary dispute between Osun and Oyo has persisted for years, leading to occasional tension among border communities. The Osun government, under Adeleke’s leadership, has taken significant steps to de-escalate the situation, with a particular emphasis on diplomacy and community engagement. Governor Adeleke urged the affected communities to embrace peace as the NBC carries out its work, stressing that his administration will fully abide by the commission’s recommendations.

In his remarks, NBC Director General Adamu Adaji commended the Osun State government for its proactive approach to dispute resolution. He reiterated NBC’s mission to ensure peaceful coexistence among states by clearly defining boundaries and resolving conflicts. “We are committed to fairness, justice, and equity in all our efforts to mediate boundary disputes,” Adaji said, assuring the public of the commission’s impartiality.

The NBC’s involvement is seen as a major step toward achieving a peaceful resolution of the Osun-Oyo border dispute, which has affected economic and social activities in some border communities.
