Paul Akintelure, one of the All Progressives Congress’s (APC) leading candidates for governor of Ondo State, has passed away.
Akintelure had expressed concerns about both direct and indirect threats to his life up until his passing.
He had voiced optimism that things will get better eventually.
On Thursday, March 21, 2023, Akintelure stated, “At first, I was hoping that these incidents would go away over time, but unfortunately, they have gotten worse and now seriously threaten my life.”
“My will to defend what is just and moral is only strengthened by the threats made against me. I refuse to let fear determine how we move forward.
Let’s embrace harmony, advancement, and peace. Our ability to stand as a unit in spite of our differences is what gives us collective strength.
Think back to Akintelure campaigned alongside current Ondo State Governor Rotimi Akeredolu as the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) deputy governorship candidate against then-Labor Party flagbearer Olusegun Mimiko, who was elected.
He had previously run against the Peoples Democratic Party nominee for the Senate seat, but he had lost.
He was from Igbotako, Okitipupa Local Government Area, Ondo State, and was a doctor.
This occurs as the excitement around the Ondo governorship race intensifies.
