Xabi Alonso, manager of Bayer Leverkusen, believes Nathan Tella possesses the attributes required to prosper on the international stage.

Tellas scored his first goal for Die Werkself in a 4-0 home win over Union Berlin on Sunday.

The 24-year-old scored Leverkusen’s fourth goal of the day after coming off the bench.

The goal was a great response to his first Super Eagles call-up for the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Lesotho and Zimbabwe.

Alonso, who has been impressed with Tella’s performance since joining Sky Bet Championship club in the summer, feels Tella has what it takes to flourish for the Super Eagles.

“Nathan is a player who can just do the right thing and be in the right place.”

“He has the ability to be in the box and make the correct runs,” Alonso said on the club’s official website.

“Nigeria has great strikers, but they could use some good wingers.” He’s a pretty kind man with a strong mind and a positive outlook.”

Tella was born in England to Nigerian parents and therefore qualified to represent both nations.

He has, however, chosen to play for the three-time African champions.
