On Wednesday, a Makurdi Chief Magistrates’ Court issued a remand order for 33-year-old teacher Emmanuel Okoriko for an alleged armed robbery.

Okoriko, a resident of Benue’s Otukpo Local Government Area, was accused by the police of both attempted culpable homicide and armed robbery.

Magistrate Roseline Iyorshe rejected his claim for lack of jurisdiction, nevertheless.

Iyorshe put the subject on hold until July 26 so it could be discussed further.

Earlier, Insp. Jonah Uletu, the prosecution’s attorney, informed the court that the matter was transferred from Makurdi’s State CID to the “B” Division Police Station on May 25 so that a full investigation could take place.

According to Uletu, the letter said that Kelvin Ikwue had reported on May 23 that Okoriko had attacked his father Adakole Ikwue with a screwdriver at the ‘B’ Division Police Station.

Ikwue was allegedly stabbed in the neck and had his Samsung Galaxy phone, worth N165,000, stolen by Okoriko.

According to the prosecution, the victim was being treated at Bishop Murray Hospital in Makurdi.

According to Uletu, the offense violates Sections 327 of the Penal Code and 1(1)(2)(a)(b) of the Robbery and Firearms Act, both of which were passed in 2004.
