Delta Airlines is set to enhance the in-flight experience for its passengers by installing complimentary high-speed Wi-Fi on its nearly 700 aircraft, a move officials are calling a “dream come true.” This upgrade is expected to be in place before the end of summer.
Ranjan Goswami, Senior Vice President of Customer Experience Design at Delta, made the announcement on Monday. He explained that passengers will soon be able to access internet connectivity without needing a SkyMiles login initially. However, later this year, all Viasat Wi-Fi-equipped planes will transition to the Delta Sync Wi-Fi experience, which will link to travelers’ SkyMiles accounts.
Delta has reported an increase in international travelers this summer, and it began rolling out free Wi-Fi first on flights between the United States and France. The rollout will expand to flights to the U.K., Germany, the Netherlands, Spain, and Italy. By September, additional routes to Iceland, Ireland, Israel, Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, Greece, Portugal, Sweden, and Switzerland will also offer free Wi-Fi.
Further phases of the rollout include services to South America and Hawaii in October, followed by an introduction of free Wi-Fi for flights to Nigeria, Ghana, and Senegal by late December to early January 2025. Finally, routes to Asian countries, Australia, New Zealand, and South Africa are expected to receive this service by mid- to late-2025.
Goswami emphasized that this extensive rollout of free Wi-Fi demonstrates Delta’s commitment to improving customer satisfaction through innovative in-flight experiences, setting a new standard in the airline industry.
