After Philip Shaibu was impeached from his position as deputy governor of Edo State, there have been reports that vigilantes and volunteer groups with ties to the state government had vandalized the security post at his home.
This building was destroyed. Shaibu had built it to give his security guards a place to stay temporarily before and after their shifts.
On Aideyan Street, Off Gold Course Road, Benin, police personnel stationed at the security checkpoint allegedly faced coercion to vacate their position, forcing them to stand across from the former deputy governor’s residence.
The temporary construction was destroyed by a bulldozer, as reported by the Ministry of Road and Bridges spokesmen and security officers.
But the Commissioner for Roads and Bridges, Eta Uzamere, whose ministry is charged with carrying out the demolition, has denied having anything to do with the incident.
“I have seen some online reports linking my ministry with the demolition of the former deputy governor’s security, and I can tell you it had nothing to do with my ministry,” he stated, as reported by Daily Trust.
An unidentified attorney countered that since Shaibu was removed from public office following his impeachment, he should no longer be covered by security measures.
