At least 100 people have perished in a boat accident at Egbu village, Patigi Local Government Area of Kwara State, including a man and his four children.
According to information obtained by Propolitics, the tragedy occurred on Monday when the deceased was traveling back from a wedding in the nearby Niger State village of Egboti.
Additionally, it was reported that the boat capsized after being carried downstream by river waves and colliding with a tree.
At the time of publication, no fewer than 50 bodies had been discovered from the catastrophe, which had plunged the entire Egboti community into mourning.
According to local sources who spoke to our correspondent, the dead left Kpada village to attend the wedding in Egboti village.
Additionally, according to sources, the boat that sank near Egbu village was transporting more than 300 people on its way back from the location of the wedding celebration.
According to those who provided information on the occurrence, 69 people from the villages of Egbu, Gakpan, and Kpada in the state’s Patigi council perished.
The Divisional Police Officer of Patigi Council was sent by the state police command to acquire additional information about the incident, according to Mr. Okasanmi Ajayi, the state police command’s Public Relations Officer, who was contacted and yesterday verified the occurrence to Propolitics.
