FG upgrades Onitsha general hospital to federal medical center

Onitsha General Hospital was transformed into a Federal Medical Center on Thursday by the Federal Government.

In Onitsha, Anambra state, the inauguration was conducted by the Minister of State for Health, Ekumankama Nkama, who was acting in place of the Minister of Health, Dr. Osagie Ehanire.

Nkama predicted that the federal government would soon hire more medical professionals as a result of the hospital’s transformation into a federal medical facility.

Nkama stated, “Going forward, the Federal Government will soon post fresh doctors and other medical personnel for internship and horsemanship to the hospital,” praising state governor Prof. Chukwuma Soludo’s efforts in the health sector.

He urged the general hospital’s personnel and management team to be prepared for the challenges that lay ahead and added that those who receive much will also be expected to give back.

The State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Afam Obidike, thanked President Maj. Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (retd) for the honor shown to the people of the South East states in general and Anambra in particular, describing the upgrade as a farewell present to Ndigbo in his welcome speech on behalf of the Anambra State Government.

Chief Emengo spoke on behalf of the Obi of Onitsha, Igwe Nnaemeka Achebe, who conveyed his deep thanks to President Buhari’s administration for completing the Second Niger Bridge project and now upgrading the Onitsha General Hospital to a federal government healthcare facility.
