Former Minister of Education, Oby Ezekwesili, has fervently prayed for a “second independence” for Nigerians—this time, from what she calls domestic colonialists. In her message shared on the 64th Independence anniversary, Ezekwesili expressed concern over the leaders who have subverted public office for selfish gain rather than working for the common good of Nigerians.
Taking to X (formerly Twitter), Ezekwesili highlighted the pain Nigerians feel due to the misgovernance of the country’s resources but expressed hope that citizens will one day gain freedom from internal forces holding back progress.
She wrote, “Hope is inexhaustible,” while urging Nigerians to stay resilient and optimistic that a better Nigeria, free from the grip of self-serving leaders, will emerge.
The former minister’s message resonates with many who feel disillusioned by the state of the nation, calling for collective prayers and efforts to see the country liberated from these domestic challenges.
As Nigeria continues to struggle with governance and economic issues, Ezekwesili’s prayer serves as a beacon of hope for citizens yearning for change.
