Taraba State Governor, Agbu Kefas, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to overhauling the state’s civil service through an extensive series of training and retraining initiatives. Aimed at modernizing operational procedures, these programs are designed to equip civil servants with the digital skills required to enhance productivity and streamline service delivery across the state.
In a statement issued from Jalingo and signed by Emmanuel Bello, the Special Assistant to the Governor on Media and Digital Communication, Governor Kefas emphasized the need for civil servants to transition from outdated office practices to a more digital approach. He highlighted that this digital shift is essential for aligning the workforce with modern demands, noting, “We are now in a digital era, and we must embrace digitization as a state.”
The governor outlined that the blueprint for his administration focuses on accelerating Taraba State’s development, with the civil service playing a pivotal role in realizing this vision. By enhancing the capacity of civil servants through digital training, he believes the workforce will be better positioned to contribute meaningfully to state growth and effectively carry out their responsibilities.
Governor Kefas also revealed plans to introduce automated systems to streamline performance monitoring and promotion processes within the civil service. These systems aim to prevent corruption and ensure fairness in the promotion of workers, eliminating the influence of bribery, favoritism, or biases based on tribal or religious affiliations. “We are working to automate promotions to prevent corruption and ensure fairness,” he stated.
In addition to prioritizing digital advancements, Kefas has placed a strong focus on improving staff welfare. Efforts are being made to enhance working conditions and clear outstanding pension and gratuity payments, ensuring that civil servants and retirees receive the benefits they are owed.
Under the governor’s leadership, several recent training programs have been successfully implemented. These include sessions for state-owned media staff, various civil servants, and local engineers responsible for maintaining new agricultural tractors, reflecting his administration’s commitment to practical, hands-on training that supports state development.
